We got off lucky with the storms last night but the trip back to Brisbane from the Gold Coast in the torrential rain was pretty scary – the sky was lit up blue more than not with the lightning and the rain was so heavy it was like monsoon buckets were being dropped on us – I just hope some of it found its way into the sadly depleted dams.
The storms in Brisbane are stunningly beautiful, powerful and just a little scary. Forked lightning is something I hadn’t experienced in Auckland but it is really common here and lights up the whole sky. We get a lot more ’storm warnings’ than actual storms and strangely often they aren’t accompanied with any other bad weather like rain and high winds, just the electrical currents lighting up the sky, you don’t even always hear thunder with it.
These were public domain photos I picked up unfortunately not ones I have been able to take myself so far but I sounds like over the next couple of months these light shows could be quite common so I may have some more chances to try it out.
